18″ in diameter; 24″ wide at base; 41″ tall
circa 1920’s
Solid Oak
Refinished with a finish as smooth as glass
inside and out.
The significance of 1647 and the spider and fly
carving is that 1647 marked the beginning of the Second English Civil War which
urged church reform. In old English literature from that time period, the fly
was symbolized as the Catholic church and the spider as the Protestants.
